The Shinreigaku Clan
Clan Name: Shinreigaku
Clan Founder: Ikakku Shinreigaku
Clan History: In the old days, before the founding of the first Ninja Villages, the clans lived in isolation, carrying on their own independent traditions of The Way of the Ninja. During this time, the Ikakku Clan was a small, but prosperous tribe of Ninja Warriors in the Land of Fire, highly in touch with the earth and the resources within it. Their deep respect for the planet led them to develop highly spiritual belief systems, many of them exhibiting a great talent for jutsus tied inherently to nature. Others began to appreciate the resources the Earth had to offer, and gradually began to develop advanced techniques for harnessing them.
Over the generations, this led to two distinct schools of thought in the clan. The Fundamentalist School dictated that clansmen were growing too distant from nature and should return to the planet that had given birth to them all in order to find true enlightenment. The Progressive School taught that to remain in the dirt was to remain stagnant, that stagnation meant death, and that technological progression was the path that led to the future. Over the generations, these two schools of thought grew further and further distant until an explosion of conflict was unavoidable.
This inevitable conflict came about in an eruption of armed skirmishes between extremist members of both factions. It wasn't long before too much blood had been spilled to turn back, and the first schism within the clan resulted in a civil war. Amid the fierce combat, the clan nearly wiped itself out, its numbers reduced from nearly two-hundred to just over forty individual over the course of a few months of fighting. In an attempt to save what was left of their factions, Ikkaku Rainechi of the Fundamentalists and Ikkaku Shinreigaku of the Progressives, both leaders of their respective factions, met to discuss a peace option. Ultimately, they decided that the actions of the clan were irreconcilable, and that their foolish pride disavowed both clans from the Land of Fire that the Ikkaku Clan had once dwelt within. Therefore, the two camps took their surviving members and split up.
The progressives in the clan headed north until they hit the coast, and then turned toward the west. Eventually, they came to rest in the Land of Earth, and settled there. There, the clan mingled with the local population, interbreeding and rebuilding their numbers over the generation. Upon the death of their leader, the clan took on the name Shinreigaku, both to honor the man they viewed as their progenitor and because they felt they no longer had the right to use the proud Ikakku clan name. Over the generations, the Shinreigaku Clan established a strong tradition for swordsmithing, swordsmanship, and sword techniques. The clan found its final home in the Village Hidden Among the Rocks in the early days of its establishment, and have striven to be useful and loyal servants of its Tsuchikages ever since.
The scholars of the clan almost universally regard this end as an ironic one. Whereas the wind-natured Shinreigaku Clan wound up among the Village Hidden Among the Rocks in the Land of Earth, their earth-natured Rainechi Clan rivals, whom the Shinreigaku continue their fierce emnity with to this day, wound up in the Village Hidden Among the Sand in the Land of Wind.
Clan's Secret Techniques or Bloodline traits:
Although the clan does not have any actual bloodline traits, they have a vast understanding of a specific line of weaponry. Every member of the clan that has even the slightest importance learns the arts of smithing along with the arts of Ninjutsu, and hold fast to the belief that their swords are not so much weapons of their own, but extensions of the Shinobi's mind, body, and soul. In this manner, their code of honor holds rather similar to that of Bushido, though the similarities end there. They have no illusions that the clan is one of noble samurai, knowing and accepting that they live with the dishonor of striking only from the shadows. Because of their innate relationship with the sword, every Shinreigaku Shinobi is expected to craft their own unique weapon as a part of their coming of age ceremonies. Many important members of the clan have crafted all of their own weaponry, from their magnificent blades to their Shuriken and Kunai.
In the same way that the Uchiha Clan is very closely affiliated with the Chakra nature of Fire, so are the Shinreigaku affiliated closely with Wind-natured Chakra. Many of its members are either primarily or secondarily wind-natured.
Despite not having any true bloodline limit techniques, the clan does pass down a line of secret Jutsus down to its descendants. This line of Jutsus is known as Chigatana, which roughly translates to "Bloody Blade". Its techniques are listed in this thread.
